Bell CO416 Deluxe Visor Super Shield Review

I've seen happy reviews and angry reviews, so I hope to offer a middle of the road review.

I purchased this about a month ago. Upon receiving it, I opened it up and inspected the visor. It was free of defects, and the "hinges" (hardened molded plastic placed tightly against other molded plastic) worked well and stayed in the position I placed it in.

My usage and reason for purchase it related to my work. I deliver pizza's, so I spend a lot more time in my vehicle than most people on a simple commute to and from work (I have a half hour commute myself - one-way). I drive during the afternoon and evening hours, so not only can I benefit from this during the sunset potion of the day (when the sun is beaming in underneath my sunvisor), but during the evening hours as well. Mostly, it was the inconsiderations of other drivers who don't not turn off their brights (hi-beams) coming towards me at night that "drove" me (pardon the punn) to get this.

Installation was simple enough, as the clips were more than large enough to fit around my visor. I drive a Mercury Sable which has a decent amount of padding in the visors. I mounted mine to the bottom of my visor in the storage (up) postion. I attached the clips to the hinging side of the visor so that the Bell frame rested flat against the bottom side of my current visor. The clips were spaced far enough apart to fit around the mirror on my factory visor (roughly 4 inches wide).

During use, I would flip the visor down (from the edge as to not have my fingerprints all over the visual area) and adjust the angle away from me (towards the windsheild) according to my needs.

There is a distorted visual impairment from the visor. During the day this isnt as big of an issue, as I'm only using it to reduce sunbeams - which means that I keep the visor at a high angle. However, during night hours I use it to block oncoming vehicle lights, so that I do not need to use my original sunvisor - creating a dangerous impairment. This means that the visor is at a much more up & down angle than during the day. I've found that constantly looking through the visor at night causes my eyes to get tired quickly. I can only compare it to the effects of wearing an incorrect perscription on glasses, or wearing safety glasses or sunglasses with a smudge on them, where you become use to the visuals through the lens but you become tired more quickly.

So, I look at it like this: it is what it is. The four star rating is a result of the following:
PRICE: I paid $3.95 (plus shipping, ~$8.75 total) for this. (+)
EXPECTATIONS: My expectations were very low for the visor going into it, and I wasn't disappointed nor impressed. (+)
OPERATION: It is a functional and sturdy visor that in my time thus far has not become weak and floppy at the hinges. (+)
FUNCTIONALITY: It reduces sunlight and headlights of cars effectively. (+)
PERFORMANCE: It distorts the view through the lens slightly - causing the need for eye adjustments if looking through it for any extended period of time. (-)

The color of the visor IS smoke - not black, not blue (at least mine was). I dont believe that "you get what you pay for" - which would imply that the more you pay the better the product. I've seen a ton of products taht cost a lot and are horrible, just as I've seen very cheaply priced products that perform beyond any possible expectation.
