CIPA 32000 10" Day/ Night Rearview Mirror" Review

I bought this mirror to replace my OEM mirror in a Ford Focus (the reflective surface is beginning to deteriorate around the edges after 10 years). The quality of this mirror is very poor compared to the OEM mirror. The entire mirror vibrates constantly while the car is running--the original mirror does not do this. I tightened the mirror securely, so it was not vibrating because it was loose. The OEM mirror doesn't even use a screw--it simply clips on, so tightness of the connection should not be the issue. Also, the image reflected in this mirror is distorted. While the quality of the reflection is not particularly important in a rearview mirror, I found that it was so distracting to see a vibrating, distorted image every time I glanced up that I just couldn't use it.

I did like that it adjusts a little higher up than the OEM mirror. Construction quality is fine for the price. But if you think you will also be distracted by vibrations or a distorted image, I would look elsewhere.

UPDATE 10/28/2011: I ended up buying a replacement mirror from Ford. It uses a different design than my original mirror--it has a metal clip instead of a plastic one, which requires you to slide it down on the mounting base harder than it seems like you should for something mounted to glass. The OEM replacement is completely vibration-free and the glass surface is smooth and distortion-free, and it's even a little larger than my old mirror. It did cost a little more, but it was not unreasonable.

I might recommend this mirror if your OEM mirror is extremely expensive, unavailable, or was itself of poor quality, and you just need to see what's behind you. But if you're happy with the mirror it's replacing, I'd at least price an OEM replacement before resorting to this one.

This is a sturdy set of sleeves that come with nice tight pockets so your cd/dvd's do not slip out as you turn pages. The pages fit into any cheap 3 ring note book or school style binder or expensive locking binder case. If you use all 200 disc slots in one 3 ring binder, your binder needs to be at least 3 inches. But, keep in mind, for easy...and safer page turning, never have more than 100 cd's per binder. Why? Because too many sleeves in a binder make the cd's subject to torque and possible bending. Yikes. I discovered this in a $50 metal binder case. Most people have discovered that one binder per genre is a much easier and smarter way to go. These stepper motors worked as described and are an exact replacement to the originals. My husband replaced the faulty motors in the instrument panel over two months ago. The parts were not plug and play as we thought they would be. Inside of the instrument panel is a printed circuit board and the stepper motors are soldered in place. You will have to de-solder the old stepper motors and then solder the new ones in place. This process was not difficult, but you will need the solder and soldering gun to install the motors. Also, the fuel gauge still did not work after the repair, because the float sensor had to be replaced in the fuel tank. These motors were for our Chevy Trailblazer and they work perfectly. The dealership wanted to charge between $500 to $800.00+ for this repair.

I got a pair of these to help shield my little one while driving. I have been pretty disappointed with them so far. The actual surface area is quite small, so it does a poor job at actually blocking out the sun's rays. The roller bar is quite a bit wider than the shade, meaning that in some cars that have sloped window tops, you have to position it further down the window. Last but not least, the suction cups don't work very well. Yes, you should make sure your windows are clean, but they still come off pretty easily. I would not buy this again.

3 FlareAlert 9.1.1 LED Emergency Beacon Flares with Storage Bag Review

Before writing this review, I made sure to look at the 1 and 2 star reviews (which made some valid points but not deal breakers for us). Why? Because we faced this situation: heavy snow, a car which broke down and low visibility. We immediately got out these flares and were happy to see that they were visible for some distance (to test this out, we stood away from the road, on the ground and far back from the car). One of the MAJOR advantages of this product is that each emergency beacon is magnetized and sticks to cars. I"m also getting another set because I think it is safer to have some behind the car as well as to the side- as well as on the car itself.

The bottom line is that they worked on a busy interstate and we could see cars taking care to avoid our car, long before they got within striking range. There were no screeching or skidding noises from those cars. Meanwhile, we stayed outside our car, since the temperature wasn't too cold. The beacons are noted to be able to be "run over" by a 6000 pound vehicle. I can't vouch for that because it didn't happen.

I do want to address the concerns of those who gave lower ratings to this product. Yes, it could be difficult to install the batteries for those with arthritis or any trouble pushing batteries into typical battery slots. Yes, it takes a bit of strength to move the top of the beacons counter clockwise to open the case (but not all that much). I don't work out enough to have more than average hand strength. But just to be sure, I had a 12 year old, a 50 year old and an 80 year old open the case. None of them do more than general household chores and activities. I don't know if multiple sets have reliability problems but we'll find out soon enough as I'm ordering more (and I'm revise my review if we had any difficulties with any of the beacons).

You do have to get the batteries firmly in place, nice and straight. The top of each beacon doesn't have enough space to accommodate batteries that stick up. This wasn't a big deal to us.

The kit also doesn't come with batteries but many products don't come with batteries so I didn't assume it contained batteries. The only decision we had to make was whether to install the batteries ahead of time or have them ready and waiting in the storage bag which comes with this product. In an emergency, it seems desirable to turn on the beacons and get instant safety. But if you install the batteries ahead of time you do need to remember to check them often enough to avoid battery leakage and potentially ruined beacons.

There is both a flash and steady option for the lights. If you use the flash option, you are supposed to get 60 hours of battery life. Thankfully, we needed only a few hours of time. If you use the steady light option (no flashing), you get only 20 hours of battery time. I think the flash option would attract more attention and that is what we used when in our emergency situation.

A MAJOR advantage is that the beacons are compact and come in a storage bag. Just stick the bag in your car's trunk or somewhere in the back seat or an over the seat storage pack and you're good to go. I'm definitely getting one for a son's car as well as my spouse's vehicle.

Eddie Bauer 2 Pack Cling SunShade Review

The product came folded a bit sloppy, which created extra wrinkles, but if you're patient, you can work them out. We bought a set 2 years ago for our first child, and they are holding up great on one side of the car. Just bought a second set and installed on the other side of the car without any issues.

Here's what you do...
1. Clean the window to remove any dust and lint.
2. Remove the cling from package and avoid too many finger prints on it. Also, try not to place it on your car seats or anywhere that it can pick up dust/lint.
3. Spray a light mist of glass cleaner on your window.
4. "Float" the cling on the wet surface until you get it where you want it.
5. Using an old credit card, work any bubbles/liquid out from the center of the cling towards the edges. Be careful to do this gently and slowly so that the card doesn't catch on the plastic and make a kink.
6. Use paper towels to soak up glass cleaner as it seeps out from the edges.
7. If you have any stubborn areas, life the cling away from the glass, spray more cleaner, and repeat steps 5-6.

There may be some bubbles that linger, but they tend to disappear after a few days of exposure to warm sun.
