I was disappointed with this product. Partly because I was hoping to simply swap the broken plastic parts on my key with this shell (I didn't understand that the metal and plastic on this shell are fused together). (The Honda shells are not this way, so why are these keys different?) And partly because of a review I read here where the reviewer claimed his dealer cut him a new key for free.In order to use this shell, you have to have your key duplicated, using this shell as the blank for the new key.
The hardware stores cannot cut these car keys as the car key designs are more sophisticated than regular door keys.
The dealer I spoke with will not use blanks they don't provide. I was told it was not worth it for them to risk their equipment. They charge $150 for a new key.
The fist lock smith I spoke with charges the same $89 regardless of who provides the blank.
The second lock smith I spoke with charges $50 for cutting the key and $50 for the blank. At least they were willing to use this blank.
In the end, I put a new battery into the FOB and basically glued my existing shell together.
Before buying one of these products, I would suggest people talk with the lock smith (or whoever will cut the new key) ahead of time.
