I own a 2001 Passat, November 2011 the display on the dash read out: STOP... ABS FAILURE! This freaked out my wife so we took it in to the dealer and they looked into it. They reset the fault and wiggled a few connectors to the tune of $150.00. The scan alone was the first $100.00. My assumption is that they already knew what the problem was before they even plugged it in as the new part alone through them was $900.00. The rebuilder I sent my part to charged $125.00 to rebuild my original with heavier duty components. After I installed it I mentioned the problem to a buddy who owns a repair shop, he offered me his code reader to reset the fault that reoccurred when I had come home from the dealer visit. His reader worked great and as it would turn out happens to be this very one. If you own a VW or Audi product, this Reader will pay for itself twice the first time you use it. The VAG (volkswagen audi group) reader is the only way to go. It reads more systems than the generic code readers available and has the added benefit of reading other manufacturers codes. Instrument is a hard plastic similar to that of a multi meter and very rugged, four button control keeps it simple. For $54.00 I'm buying one now so I don't have to borrow. Car has 111K on the odometer, I'm pretty confident I'll have use for it again. After all, next time I need it, I'll save $50.00 right off the top for the 1st read and another $100.00 for the final reset after the repair. No Brainer!
